AQUABEST AND ITS MOTHER COMPANY GQWEST INC has announced it will join the world in celebrating and working towards the ideals of World Earth Day, which was established in 1970 with an advocacy to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's natural environment.       Since then the celebration of Earth Day has been observed through activities like Earth Hour. This year, the theme for Earth Day is "A Billion Acts of Green". It aims to inspire and reward both simple individual acts and larger organizational initiatives that further the goal of measurably reducing carbon emissions and supporting sustainability, with the target of gathering one billion actions in advance of the Earth Summit in Rio in 2012.       In support of World Earth Day, GQWEST Inc is proud to present its Green Mindset Campaign. This was launched with with the grand vision of eventually giving back more than it takes.       From its beginnings as a tree planting program the company decided to expand it to make greater contributions to the betterment of society. "We started the program after seeing the impact of environmental degradation, which affects our business by diminishing the water supplies that our stores rely on, says Carson Tan, CEO of GQWEST.       A key component of the program is to make company operations carbon neutral and reengineer them so all its activities contribute to the program, making them not only sustainable but also indistinct from the company's day-to-day operations.       Another is the EntrepRises concept that maximizes water usage by integrating a laundromat with the water store, thereby utilizing the 60 percent of a station's water input that would otherwise be discarded as part of the water filtration process. The laundromat uses environmentally friendly detergents, eliminating any pollutants, as well as advanced technology to use less detergent.       The EntrepRises, is part of our efforts to show that eco friendliness and business can coexist. You don't have to choose between profits and being environmentally conscious, with innovation you can integrate them," says Tan.       To complement its resource efficiency measures, the company has instituted a recycling program for its plastic bottles, and further plans are under way to reduce energy consumption by utilizing solar panels to generate some of the power needed to run the various processes in the stores.       Finally, GQWEST INC plans to upgrade its participation with the Haribon Foundation's tree planting efforts. The company plans to employ local residents at the tree-planting sites to take care of the trees planted. Hiring local local people will provide them livelihood, and at the same time will increase the survival rates of the plants.       Through these initiatives, the company hopes to do its share in spreading the ideals of World Earth Day. Whilst understanding that it cannot do everything alone, GQWEST believes that it can serve as an example for other companies to follow.
